STUNNING PICTURE BOOKS

Is it just me or children’s books keep getting more and more beautiful everyday? Or is it that I can’t stop myself from discovering very talented anthors and illustrators everytime I go at the bookstore/library/on the Internet?

I just can’t stop being amazed at how beautiful some books are… and recently, my son too. He was always attracted by beautiful picture books, but since he became more passionate about drawing, painting and crafts in general, I must say that he talks more and more about colors, shapes and so on while looking at some of his books.

Here are a few stunning picture books that will be sure to please if placed under the Christmas tree!

THE GOLDEN GLOW

Fox loves nature, especially flowers. As he reads about them one evening, he stumbles across a mention of a rare specimen: the golden glow, from the Wellhidden family. The book states that this rare plant can only be found in the mountains… So Fox decides to go on a quest and find the mysterious golden glow. This beautiful picture book not only takes us on a adventure, but teaches us about flowers, trees, altitudes… and even gives us nature-related activity ideas at the end.

One of our favorite books this year!

IMAGINE A CITY

“Imagine a world without edges . . . where bunnies and bears ride bicycles, lions read books, and buses are fish that fly through the clouds. In the city of imagination, anything is possible, and an outing with their mother brings a world of adventure to two lucky children.”

This book has us dream everytime. We just love making things up – imagining our own city- and looking at all the details in every picture. A pleasant read for both kids and parents!

JUST BECAUSE

The perfect book for all those curious little minds that just LOVE asking question after question just before bedtime!

Why is the ocean blue? What is the rain? What happened to the dinosaurs?

Curious questions get curious answers in this charming book by Mac Barnett and illustrated by the very talented Isabelle Arsenault (who also illustrated one of my personal favorites, You Belong Here).

LINDBERGH: THE TALE OF A FLYING MOUSE

My son (and my husband, haha!) have been fascinated by planes for years. So when my son started asking about a “Big boy” book – meaning a book with lots more pages – I knew I could finally introduce him to Torben Kuhlmann’s Lindbergh: The Tale of a Flying Mouse. He was impressed by the size of the book (96 pages), but mostly, he really enjoyed the fact that this picture book had chapters (so we used a bookmark for the first time) and he was very proud of being able to listen to a story this long. Don’t worry: lots of double-pages are full illustrations, keeping the text to a reasonnable amount.

None the less, this absolutely stunning picture book is for more advanced pre-K “readers”.
